Sources & methods

How we find places, confirm facts and keep them current.

The verification process

  • Find: candidate places come from OpenStreetMap and editorial research.
  • Confirm: each fact is checked on the place's official website or a government page. Our software re-fetches every cited page and keeps a fact only if the page actually states it, following each site's robots.txt.
  • Review: ambiguous, conflicting or thinly sourced listings go to a human review queue instead of being published.
  • Recheck: listings are scheduled for reverification. Changes found on recheck are reviewed before they appear.

Source registry

  • OpenStreetMap — Coordinates and candidate leads. Attribution shown on maps and the sources page. Licence/terms: ODbL 1.0. Attribution: © OpenStreetMap contributors
  • Official website — Facts (address, phone, hours, admission) confirmed on the place's own website. Descriptions are written by our editors. Licence/terms: Facts only (not copyrightable); text not copied
  • Government website — City, county, state or federal pages (parks departments, transit agencies, airports). Licence/terms: Facts only; Florida public records
  • Visit Orlando — Official destination marketing organization; used only as a secondary source. Licence/terms: Facts only; secondary source
  • Sunshine Visitor Guide editors — Summaries and descriptions written by our editors from verified facts. Licence/terms: Original content

Maps

Maps use OpenFreeMap tiles built from OpenStreetMap data, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License. Map locations for some listings come from OpenStreetMap and Nominatim.
